Northern Michigan and I go way back, all the way back. As a kid I didn't mind how cold Lake Michigan was, loved the kitschy tourist traps north of the bridge, and was trained in night crawler picking and ten point buck spotting. As an adult I love it in a different way, the way it smells, all the white birch, and pretending the lakes are oceans. Last week I had all new Michigan experiences. For instance, the fog hanging over the hills of Lake Leelanau is enchanting, and I found and picked my first morels. I had the pleasure of working for a real pro, shout out to Christina at Field of Flowers Farm! Christina lovingly restored a dilapidated farm in Lake Leelanau and has grown a business that includes floral design, a cut flower farm, and barn rental. Being there felt kind of magical. And I made one heck of a huge arrangement.
